Holy Communion
Every Sunday from 11am-12pm
Every Tuesday lunctime 12.30pm-12.55pm

At our service of Holy Communion we hear readings from the bible, thoughtful preaching, pray and share bread and wine – as Jesus commanded on the night before he died on the cross.

On Sunday our worship is enhanced by choral music. On alternate weeks we welcome the St Olave Scholars (a four part professional choir) and on other weeks music is provided by a single singer or Cantor, accompanied by our Organist. Our Sunday service typically lasts just under one hour (occasionally slightly longer on special feast days or when our service incorporates baptism or confirmation) and is followed by time to chat over tea, coffee and cake.

On Tuesday the service is said (with no music). The service is followed by a sandwich lunch. The St Olave Singers (our Community Choir) rehearse after lunch from 1.15pm-1.50pm.

Choral Evensong
On the second and fourth Tuesday of the month
from 5.30pm-6.15pm

Choral Evensong is a form of prayer which has been used, largely unchanged, in churches and cathedrals for nearly five hundred years. The words we sing and say remind us that we are part of something that has endured for centuries and will continue when we are no longer here. Most of the service is led by the choir and the priest. You are invited to relax and let yourself be carried by the music and the words you hear.  Know that in this service, and in all our worship at St Olave Hart Street, we seek to be touched, healed and transformed by God’s love for each and every human soul and for the world and all its peoples. Refreshments are served afterwards. The service may be followed by a talk or one of our St Olave Lectures.

Compline by Candlelight in the Crypt Chapel
On the first, third and fifth Tuesday of the month
from 5.30pm-5.50pm

Compline derives its name from a Latin word meaning ‘completion’. It is a service of quietness and reflection before rest at the end of the day. Ancient prayers are sung to meditative chant by candlelight in our medieval crypt chapel. The chapel is accessed down a narrow staircase and low doorway. Please take a candle and an order of service from the basket at the top of the stairs. The service lasts approximately twenty minutes and ends in silence for quiet contemplation. The service may be followed by a talk or one of our St Olave Lectures.

Morning Prayer
Every Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday from 8.30am-8.45am

Start the day by joining us for Morning Prayer. We use the Book of Common Prayer, following a time honoured pattern of psalms, bible readings, canticles and prayers creating a steady rhythm of listening and response. The service offers space to reflect, give thanks and pray for the needs of the world.

Evening Prayer
Every Wednesday & Thursday from 5.30pm-5.50pm

Every Wednesday and Thursday we say Evening Prayer according to the Book of Common Prayer, offering space for prayer and reflection at the close of the day and the opportunity to meditate on the psalms and the scriptures. On Tuesday evenings we offer a sung service, either Choral Evensong (sung Evening Prayer) or Compline (sung Night Prayer).
