Tuesday 31st March 2026 – Come & Sing in Holy Week – A Renewed Tradition

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us to “Come & Sing” Sir John Stainer’s The Crucifixion on Tuesday 31 March – both the singers and the congregation!

For many years here there was a long-standing tradition here of performing a sung setting of the Passion of Christ. It was wonderful to resurrect that tradition this year – the first of what we hope will be a renewed annual event in Holy Week.

Thank you to members of the Hanover Choir and The St Olave Singers and to those who joined us to sing here for the first time. Special thanks to our soloists, Nick Dykes and Crispin Lewis, to Colin Spinks on the organ and Jonathan Pease for conducting and leading the rehearsal and performance so expertly.

Many commented on how moving a performance it was, new connections and meaning being found in the story of Christ’s passion when sung.

The Hanover Choir rehearse here at the church on Thursday evenings with regular performances and tours. Find out about how to join them on their website.

The St Olave Singers rehearse here on Tuesday lunchtimes after a service of Holy Communion (12.30pm-12.55pm) – rehearsals from 1.15pm-1.45/2pm. Do pop along and say hello if you are interested in joining in.

Do join us throughout the rest of Holy Week and Easter. Details of our special services and events are at this link
