Join our friendly and informal group exploring the bible, the Christian faith and spirituality
Interested in finding out more about the Christian faith, spirituality and traditions?
Feel drawn to reading and talking about the bible with a friendly group of fellow pilgrims?
Join The Hart Group!
The Hart Group meets regularly throughout the year and is open to all. We meet on Thursday evenings often including dinner and sometimes online. Some members have recently been baptised and confirmed, others are seasoned pilgrims. All are exploring their faith and seeking understanding about Christian spirituality and traditions and keen to study the bible together in a friendly and informal way.
In Lent 2026 we explored the text of 1 Peter. Our SummerTerm focus will be Christian Spirituality and Wellbeing, following a course developed by the Guild of Health. In the Autumn we will be revisiting ‘Faith Confirmed’ as we prepare for confirmations. The group also hopes to explore the structure and scriptural origins of Choral Evensong in the months ahead.

Hart Group Meeting Dates – Summer Term 2026
Christian Spirituality and Healing
5.30pm-5.50pm – Evening Prayer
6.00pm-6.30pm – Drinks, Nibbles and Conversation
6.30pm-7.45pm – Study Group (will be available online via Zoom and in person)
St Olave Hart Street is an ancient place of healing. The first healing miracle attributed to St Olaf in England was recorded at this church in the twelfth century. Over the course of five sessions we will explore more about the intersection between Christian spirituality, scripture and wellbeing, drawing on the latest theological and scientific thinking and research from The Guild of Health. Please join us for as many sessions as you are able.
Thursday 7th May – Thinking Health & Healing
What is the role of the church in health and wellbeing?
Thursday 21st May – Sounding Like Yourself
We explore the profound connections between healing and human flourishing. Reflecting on who God made us to be, how we might live more fully into that identity, and how to practice flourishing even in the midst of pain, loss, and ordinary daily life.
Thursday 4th June – The Invitation to Heal
Jesus tells us to go and make disciples and to heal. But often inviting others into the faith carries risk and the fear of rejection. We explore the ‘Invisible wounds’ that can hold us back from sharing our faith, the biology of courage and the benefits of stress – reflecting on theology, science, mission, psychology and our own reconciliation with a God who loves us.
Thursday 25th June – Being Trauma Informed
Drawing on insights from neuroscience alongside a Christian understanding of healing, we will explore how to recognise the impact of trauma and respond in ways that bring hope rather than harm.
Thursday 9th July – Where healing and reconciliation meet: seeking peace in today’s world
We explore the shared language and concepts between reconciliation and healing; our sense of vocation and call; the desperate need to harness the healing power of forgiveness, the urgency for radical hospitality – despite the costs; how true embodied presence can bring healing; and how ‘total peace’ can be sought
